Since his early childhood Stephan has been enthusiastic about every thing flying — be it birds or airplanes. He has always loved standing outside for hours and watch birds flutter around or planes land and depart. Yet his professional education didn’t lead him straight into aviation. He studied theology at the Universities of Zurich, Prague and Bern and graduated with a master’s degree. Thereafter he received his practical training to become a minister and was ordained a pastor in the Reformed Church. For more than ten years he served in parish ministry — mostly in the surroundings of Zurich Airport where he could still smell the scent of jet fuel.
Rev. Stephan started serving as an airport chaplain in 2016 and loves working at the intersection of faith and aviation in the unique environment of an international airport. He is also a Board Member of the International Association of Civil Aviation Chaplains (IACAC).
